Mat 3:8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance,
Beloved, I have been sitting with this scripture in my heart for a while.
We as children of God are supposed to bear fruit. Now we all know the fruit of the Spirit as stated in Galatians 5 from verse 22&23
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Gal 5:23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
But there is more to this that I thought. In Mat 3:8 the bible says that we should also bear fruit that is worthy of repentance. Now this got me thinking, If we say that we are children of God, then why are there so many of us that does not have the fruit worthy of repentance.
This means that whatever we do or say, should be fruit of our repentance. Do you remember the first time you gave your heart to the Lord? You were so in love with Him. You didn’t want to do anything to compromise the relationship you just found in Christ Jesus with the Lord God Almighty.
But as time passes we tend to forget where God has brought us from, and sadly our fruit dries out and sometimes even dies. We start to walk and talk a life that is far from what God desires us to do. We forget that it was by His grace alone that we were saved from our sin.
The thing is, we live amongst people who don’t know God, and what fruit do they see in our lives? Yes we can have the fruit of the Spirit and we should strive to bear those fruit every day. But what about our fruit of repentance?
How will the world that is lost be convicted if our lives is not convicting to them? There is a saying that you may be the only bible that a lost person may read. So why do we not live a live worthy of our repentance? How we act, and what we say are noticed by others and they will remember it.
So today I want to bow my knees and heart low before my Saviour and King Jesus Christ and ask Him to help me bear that fruit.
God bless you!
